Unlike a Social Security Number, which we are taught to memorize once we get one, an EIN number is usually not used on a regular basis. If you lost or misplaced your EIN, there is no need to worry, as there are several ways that you can retrieve it. Here are the normal steps you can take to locate your number:
✔ Locate the confirmation email or physical letter you received from the IRS
✔ Look on the Secretary of State website for your Articles of Organization if you have an LLC, or Articles of Incorporation if you have a Corporation
✔ Call the bank you have a business bank account with
✔ Look on prior tax returns
✔ Look on official State or local documents such as a business license or permit
✔ Contact any of the issuing banks for your business credit cards
✔ If nothing else works, you can contact the IRS directly on the business and specialty tax line at 800-829-4933
